UPDATE: Goldie C, a reader of the blog sent me links to the FileWise system. I decided to take it upon myself (after learning 1 out of 5 test people can't open the file... bummer) to put the whole system online! Call me insane... but I am in the process RIGHT NOW! Eventually it will be complete. THANK YOU GOLDIE!!! Here is the Link... FileWise Blog I am constructing.
Okay... you can now continue on to the rant...
I have used the Filewise filing system for years now. I found it while I was living in Tennessee and started using it right away. I love it! I started cleaning up my files that went to hell between move after move from RV to boat to van to various storage units while we lived in San Diego. Since I have plenty of time on my hands, I figured I'd get all my piles of papers and file folders that are completely disorganized and start getting it together again.
One problem, I can't find my filewise index that tells where each thing goes. I know where some of them go. The paid bills are in E-4... or is that E-1? And personal stuff is the L section, Or maybe it's home. Well, okay maybe not as well as I would like to think. So I went to file folder A-3 which houses the Filewise Index. It tells you where to file each document and sheet of paper you have. I nearly fainted! It's not in the file folder at all. I have no idea where it is either.
I immediately started searching the internet for the program so I could see if I could buy just the index or maybe download a trial version so I could just print off that file. Hey, I paid for it once, I feel okay doing that! But it turns out that they are no longer in business. My boring little world is crashing around me right now. I am pouting. Not really.
After that I started searching for file systems and found one but being the routine stickler that I am, I do not like change and having to change file systems just blows my world away. I hate every second of it. Eventually I will order the system and let you know how it works but in the meantime, if anyone happens to have the Filewise Index that tells you which folder to file each document in, if you could pretty please email me, I'd really appreciate it.

My inflammatory markers are elevated, cough syrup anyone?
I got a call from the doctors office today. The CMA told me that my lab results show that my inflammatory markers are slightly elevated. I have no idea what that means. I guess I should have asked. I'll call tomorrow and ask. All I know is that I am still in a lot of pain. The Tramadol isn't helping at all. My back burns insanely and I have become a touch of a hermit because of it.
I don't go to the store if I can find any way to avoid it. I usually end up in tears by the time I am done. It's agony to walk through my house anymore, much less a whole grocery store. The most places I go are to the mail store (they bring my mail out to me), Nikky's house, and Town Pump. I have no life now. But I have to say, I have had fun crocheting!
I will have to post some of my crochet projects sometime. I am making about five blankets, a purse, matching crochet hook bag for my purse and matching slippers. I have a lot of time on my hands so I will have plenty of projects to do and complete! I also decided that since everyone is getting sick, it was time to make couch syrup. I love my homemade cough syrup!
So I went to Nikky's house and we made three batches of cough syrup. Cherry with onion, cherry without onion (for the onion allergic) and strawberry with onion. I have to say, I have never had a strawberry batch turn out like this before. We made two batches in one and somewhere along the way it went wrong. The finished product looked like blood and pus mixed with a little vomit and smelled like rancid garbage. My guess is that we used the wrong onion. The cherry syrup mix turned out wonderful! I ended up taking some last night and it works like I remember it to!
For the rest of today, I will be working on updating all my blogs, writing, posting recipes and working on my book. Today is just going to be a writing day! At the end of the day, I will start my very own herbal book! I am excited!!!

13 Cool Android Apps I MUST have on my Droid
I recently bought a Droid 2 for my upgrade with Verizon Wireless. At first I promised myself I would not add a bunch of apps on my phone... then I found the android marketplace and the Amazon.com android apps and that promise went right out the window. Here are 13 Android apps I love having on my Droid. I am not posting games though, that will be another post.
Blogger-Droid
This cool app let's me work on my blogger posts no matter where I am. You will need to download the Airpush Permanently Opt-out app though. The downside to the free blogger app is that it pops up with a shit ton of ads that will show up in your notification bar. Once I got rid of those freaking bastards I am loving the Blogger-Droid app. If you can spring for the $4.80 for the paid version, it's way more awesome. You can Bold, italicize, underline and more to your text. I haven't finished experimenting with all I can do but I love it so far!
ICE: In Case of Emergency
What if you were in an accident and your phone was locked? There wouldn't be a good way to find your emergency contacts or information. But with the ICE app emergency personnel are able to open the ICE app even if your phone is locked. Add your personal medical info (like allergies), emergency contact information and their relationship to you, and anything else you'd like to add. You can also add a note of who to call in case you lose your phone.
Alarm Clock Xtreme
With this app, you will never have to worry about sleeping through our alarm again. It starts out soft and gets louder over the next 60 seconds. Worried about smacking the snooze button too many times? Don't be! This app will let you pick how many times you are allowed to hit snooze. And if you are like me and dismiss alarms then fall right back into a coma, you can have the dismiss button take you to math problems that you have to solve before you are allowed to dismiss the alarm.
Book readers
I have four book readers on my phone. Now I can read books anywhere without the extra luggage. Kindle, Nook and Google books are great book reader apps that let you purchase books from their online stores. Wattpad is an app for free eBooks that has a large library. I found a few good books so far and with their large library of books, I am sure to find many more.
ByteMe Phone Spy
I know I am not the only one to lose my phone, right? And calling it works great if your ringer volume is turned up. If it's on silent or vibrate, you are pretty much screwed until you happen to run across it again. With this nifty app, you can send a text to your phone with a secret code. When your phone receives the code, the app will sound an alarm, even if your phone is on silent! If your phone is stolen, you can text another secret code to your phone and it will text back the GPS coordinates of your phone. While I haven't used the GPS locator, I have found my phone a few times much faster than searching for it and trying to remember what room I had it in last.
Catch Notes
This is a neat app to keep notes in. But unlike other apps, you can add tags to each note with the # sign like you would do on twitter. Then when you are looking for a note, you can search by tags. If I saved a note with #dotchi at the end of it, I could search all dotchi tags and it would show me all notes with that tag. The app journal works with catch notes also and is a great way to journal gratitude, kindness and meditations.
Chore Checklist
I love this app. There are routines that can repeat daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc. And each chore can have its own reminder that will show up in your notification bar. It's easy to add new routines and chores that repeat so you don't have to remember to reset the chore. It does it for you. I use this with my Motivated Moms chores list.
Mint.com
Mint let's you manage your money, plan budgets and plan goals. With the mint app, you can do this from your android phone. I added a password to mine for added security.
Out of Milk
I love this app. I can make a grocery list, add the price and quantity of each item and it totals your grocery bill for you. You can add in sales tax in the apps preferences screen too. It has a pantry inventory and a to do list also. Although I don't use the to do list, but the rest of the app is wonderful.
Quick Office
This app is like Microsoft office with spreadsheets. Only it's on your phone and easy to get to no matter where you are.
Youtube
How could you have kids on a road trip without the Youtube app? It's a great app that let's you watch Youtube videos right on your phone. Now when I am at hang out night and someone mentions a Youtube video, I can just search for it and share it right then and there.
Facebook app
The facebook app let's me post updates, pictures, read my friends updates, chat and view my profile and my friends profile. Okay, so you can't play farmville on it, but it's a lite version of facebook and I love it. There are also apps for twitter and other social sites but I like facebook the best.
Sleep Bot
Ever wonder how much sleep you getting each night? Wonder no more. This app has a button to press when you are going to sleep and when you wake up. It'll log the hours of sleep you are getting each day. I have mine set to put my phone in airplane mode when I go to sleep. You can also edit your sleep entries in case you forgot to hit the button, select the hours you need to sleep each night, gives you tips on getting better sleep and have graphs so you can visualize your weeks sleep.
Okay, now I am curious. What are your favorite apps?

A CNA doing nice things, pass it on...
Yes, I know there is a movie about doing nice things for people but, I am talking about at work. I work in a nursing home and the tension is horrible sometimes. We have what I call "shift wars". Day shift hates Night shift, Eve shift hates Day shift and Night shift hates everyone and is the bastard shift of the building. Anything that can be blamed on them is.
I recently went to Night shift and promised myself I was not dragging the war with me. I am not playing this game. Instead, I vowed to do my best and to do extra to help out the next shift. These things may not apply to your nursing home but, here are some things I do to help out the next shift and hopefully help mend working relationships.
1) Answer call lights! It's state law, we have to do it... but I see plenty of off going CNA's walk out without answering call lights. Take a minute on your way out and answer it! Sometimes it's as easy as opening blinds, getting a hard to reach brush or turning on their TV and will give the on coming CNA the time they need on their hall.
2) Lay out clothes. Even if you aren't dressing your resident, you can take the time to lay out an outfit for them so your on coming CNA has one less thing to do. Pick out socks, arm protectors, TED hose, bras, panties and all. This way your CNA will have the extra minutes they need to get everyone up and to breakfast on time.
3) Get extra people dressed. I'm not saying to pull everyone out of bed and make them get dressed. After 4 AM, if someone gets up to go the bathroom, I ask if I can help them get dressed. Even one extra person dressed will help the on coming CNA have extra time to help others in the morning.
4) Make a bed. I have a few residents that get up early. If I have an extra minute, I'll make their bed for the CNA.
5) Tidy the closets. My process if pretty simple and fast. Pull all the empty hangers and put them on the right had side of the closet. Next, pull all the pants and put them next to the empty hangers. Finally, pull all the sweaters and put them on the left hand side of the closet. This will make it easier for the day shift CNA when they are in a rush and have to grab a new pair of pants, shirt or sweater.
6) Stock everything. With my shift, I usually have enough time to stock items so the next shift doesn't have to worry about running out of items during their shift. I stock enough gloves, wipes, briefs and personal items for each room. My rule of thumb is to stock everything plus one. That way if they run out, there is still another pack waiting for them.
7) Check for trashcan liners. While stocking, check the trashcans and make sure they have enough can liners to last through a few days. Not having to run to get liners mid-shift will help out the CNA's during the day.
8) Tidy the bed side tables, sinks and night stands. Not only does this help out the next shift, but it also makes a better impression for family members and guests. Spend a minute or two straightening up the room so the next CNA doesn't have to.
9) Take your trash with you. When you leave, don't forget to take your trash with you and toss it in the dumpster. I have worked other shifts as a CNA and day shift really doesn't have the time to empty the trash barrel if it's full.
Working together as a team is a huge deal to many nursing homes. We night shift graveyard workers can encourage teamwork by doing a little extra to help the next shift. If you have any ideas that help, leave them in the comments.
Happy blogging!

May 21, 2011 The World is going to end tomorrow! Are you ready?
I am all excited and giddy right now! Tomorrow May 21, 2011 the world is going to end! Or that is what some extremists think. If it does, my life will be a lot easier. I won't have anymore debt, I won't have to go to work, I won't have to worry about my allergies and I won't have to worry any more about not having any money saved up for emergencies. But, if it doesn't end on May 21, 2011 (like I am thinking) I am going to have a party May 22, 2011. BYOB! If you make it through the apocalypse, leave a comment! I'd love to hear that I am not the only one that survived. After all, I KNOW I am not going to be one of "God's chosen".
There are plenty of Facebook pages and events popping up. I joined a few of them in honor of May 21, 2011. So far I have joined I am going to laugh when the ruptured doesn't occur on May 21, 2011, Post Rapture looting (Hell YEA!) and After Rapture Party. (BYOB)
If you are still here on May 22, 2011... Don't worry! There will be many more end of the world dates. Mark your calendar for the "It's the End of the World Again Post Rapture Party!" on December 22, 2011. I am pretty damned sure I'll see you there. (Something about sinning)
